Results and perspectives

The total quantity of goat's milk produced in Greece exceeded 156 thousand tonnes (2020) and its value reached 85 million Euros.

The expected results of the Business Plan are structured on several levels and in particular it is expected:

  • Improvement of feed convertibility, with a possible increase in production yields and quality characteristics of milk,
  • Development of best practice in the use of aromatic plants as feed additives and the exploitation of new know-how by future users (farmers, scientific community)
  • Production of innovative products for the benefit of the farmer and the national economy
  • Creation of a new market for Greek-produced aromatic plants as feed additives.
  • Reduction of diseases and mortality in organic farming
  • Improving the income of producers
  • Improving the quality of the species under consideration in the Greek market
  • Dissemination and spread of the knowledge generated to all interested parties

The production costs per goat are about 92% of the average gross income from the goat. The above data show that for every 1% improvement in breeding performance, the financial results of the farm increase by 10-12%.
